MANIFESTO

Rachel’s creations aim to echo her personal journey and emotional experiences. With North African roots influencing her, she expresses a duality that exists everywhere in life, that can be both uplifting and difficult.  Her work explores harmonious discord and reconciles opposing themes such as happiness vs. sadness or punk vs. traditional. These influences are depicted as cohesive and true representations of reality, that can and always coexist. By challenging the idea of opposition and asking the viewer to see everything as connected, her pieces offer a different angle on life. Art that acknowledges both good and bad, and twists them into a singular new sentiment — all-together. Think a cactus offering free hugs or two boxers hugging instead of fighting.

This concept manifests itself visually in her creations through colorful and metallic acrylic paintings whose bright hues amplify the dark, topical sentiments at their core. Contrasting the chaos inherent in life, her pieces utilize structured square frames, uncovering beauty, humor, and poetry amid life's melancholic undercurrents. Whether it’s impossible love, social barriers, a global pandemic, depression, or loneliness, her style flips conventional interpretations and focuses on visual delight and smart commentary on emotions we all experience.

WE ALL LOVE LOVE

What is LOVE? Is it a mix of admiration, desire, respect, trust, tenderness, and mystery? Do we truly fall in love with people, or with the idea of them? Do we truly ever know someone? Can love last forever? Or survive a global pandemic? Systemic racism? How do our childhood and personal journey reflect on our relationships? Is there an eternal pattern we tend to follow? Do we love the pain, or are we looking for what we think we deserve? At the end of the day, aren’t we all looking for someone who understands and knows us completely? Someone who is moved by our vulnerability and can handle our dark side? Someone who still loves us, no matter what? So many questions, so many artworks...
